User Ratings and Reviews
4 Stars Solid overview of Various Beer styles
Fantastic book if you are looking to expand what you are currently brewing! Fantastic information and can really inspire some new thoughts.
5 Stars A complete joy to read…plus it’s amazingly educational
There’s a reason this book gets 22 five-star and 3 four-star reviews here. When your worst review is four stars, you’re doing something very right!
And Mosher does everything right here. I’ve been brewing my own beer for a few years now, and if I had to keep one book on homebrewing, this would be it. Yes, Palmer’s book is thorough and a fantastic intro, as is Papazian’s, but Mosher goes so much deeper into the history of brewing and how it relates to the many wonderfully varied recipes here that this is easily the brewbook I open time and again, while the others merely rest on the shelf.
Plus, Randy is just a flat-out fantastic writer. He makes you laugh on most every page while informing at a remarkable rate. The pictures are constantly entertaining and enlightening as to the history of our fine art, and the layout is top-notch. There is in fact not one single thing I can say against this fine tome…except that I would like another dozen just like it!
Well done, Mr. Mosher. You have made a right classic.
5 Stars Must Have Brew Book
If you brew beer or are plotting to, this book is full of useful info for recipes and ingredients. I own Brewing for Dummies and Dave Millers Homebrewing Guide as well.
4 Stars Fantastic book, but don’t trust the numbers
This is a fantastic book, and I agree with the majority of other reviewers in that Papazian or Palmer are the books to learn from. But, I want to point out that there are many numerical inaccuracies – for example, pg 105 in the recipe for Polka Dot Pilsener: “1.25 quarts of water per pound or .53 liters per kilogram”. This gives a mash ratio of 2.08:1 in US measurements but 0.53:1 in metric. People reading this book are most likely experienced enough to recognise the problem, but it’s frustrating nonetheless and would seriously mess with a beginner.
5 Stars Excellent supplement!
Gave this to my husband with a rewing kit when he started becoming interested in brewing. He only skimmed the book but found some really fascinating facts and makes a excellent partner for a brewing kit as a gift
